Rake Bar Screen / Coarse Screening
Introduction

The Rake Bar Screen from Purecreek Environmental Services is designed for coarse mechanical pretreatment of wastewater. It removes large solids such as plastics, rags, and branches, preventing clogging and protecting downstream equipment like pumps, membranes, and biological treatment units.
Applications
- Municipal wastewater headworks and pumping stations
- Industrial wastewater pretreatment (food processing, paper & pulp, textile, petrochemical)
- Stormwater and combined sewer overflow systems
- Protection of downstream fine screens, membranes, and treatment processes
How It Works
The bar screen consists of a series of vertical or inclined bars with defined spacing. Wastewater flows through the bars, while larger debris is retained on the surface. An automatic rake mechanism periodically cleans the bars by lifting and removing the captured solids, which are discharged into a container or conveyor for disposal.
Models & Options
- Bar Spacing: customizable (6–50 mm depending on application)
- Configurations: channel-mounted or tank-installed
- Drive Systems: chain-driven, cable-driven, or hydraulic rakes
- Materials: Stainless steel AISI 304 / 316 for durability, with optional protective coatings
- Sizes: designed for small pumping stations up to large municipal treatment plants
