Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Systems

PureCreek Environmental Services Inc. provides high-performance DAF units designed for efficient separation of suspended solids, oils, and grease from wastewater.

DAF technology is an essential stage in physical-chemical treatment — delivering clarified water with minimal energy consumption.

How Dissolved Air Flotation Works

Dissolved Air Flotation operates by saturating a portion of the treated water with air under pressure.
When pressure is released, fine micro-bubbles (20–80 µm) form and attach to suspended solids, fats, and other impurities, causing them to float to the surface.
The floating sludge layer is continuously removed by a scraper, while the clarified water flows out through an underflow channel.

Key Features of DAF

  • Fine air bubbles (20–80 µm) for high separation efficiency
  • Compact footprint and modular design
  • Low power consumption and easy maintenance
  • Automatic sludge skimmer and level control
  • Stainless steel construction (AISI 304/316)
  • Integration with polymer/coagulant dosing systems

Applications of DAF

  • Municipal wastewater pretreatment
  • Food and beverage industry (dairies, slaughterhouses, breweries)
  • Petrochemical and oil separation
  • Textile, pulp & paper, tannery wastewater
  • Sludge thickening before dewatering

DAF Configurations

  • Circular DAF Units — compact design for small to medium flows
  • Rectangular DAF Units — suitable for high-capacity industrial plants
  • Pressurized Air-Saturation Systems — for micro-bubble generation
  • Lamella Plate DAFs — for enhanced clarification efficiency

DAF Integration

DAF systems are typically combined with:

  • Polymer Preparation Stations for chemical conditioning
  • Screw Press or Belt Filter Presses for sludge dewatering
  • Equalization tanks and pH adjustment systems

Advantages of DAF

  • Rapid and efficient solid-liquid separation
  • Reduced chemical and sludge disposal costs
  • Stable operation under variable loads
  • Suitable for both retrofits and new installations
